Lie-ins

You know, I've decided that life is too short for feeling guilty about a long lie in. I am an early bird rather than a night owl and I like to get up early and do the things I have to do, then I can do the things I want to do.

I like to get up at about 7am, feed the cats, the chickens, and the wild birds, check for eggs, make a cup of tea, clean the fires out and re-lay them for later in the day and put away any washing up that was left to drain from the night before. Once I have done the 'necessary' things, I can do what I want. Normally it involves getting all my hairdressing or gardening stuff ready and going off to work. I like being up on my own in the mornings, I don't mind one iota that OH sleeps a bit longer than me, he tends to come to bed after me most nights. I can check my emails, look at blogs and have a hour or so to myself.

However, Sunday is a different thing. I still get up early and feed the animals and make a cup of tea, but I take the tea back to bed with. I sit and read a book or we will watch a film that was on TV too late to watch during the week. I feel no guilt whatsoever that I didn't get up and dressed until 2.15 this afternoon! I work hard all week, not only for other people but in my own house and garden and my sunday lie-in is my treat to myself. Of course, little Misty joins me for a cuddle, and of course once she is asleep in my arms I couldn't possibly move!

Changing the subject completely, my friend Hazel has started a blog. She and her husband have moved to the south of France and have been renovating a lovely old house. They used to live a couple of villages away from OH and I in England, and I have known them for several years. Hazel is a wonderful quilter and has made some stunning quilts. OH has been down to see their house when he took down a ride-on mower for them, but I have yet to go. Hopefully this year I will get to go and visit for a day. Anway, have a look at her blog, she would some visitors.

I went and had a visit - leaving a trail of words.

I just love the looks of the houses in France. They are right up my alley. Anything old - that needs work - makes my fingers itch.

I really liked that you listed your job as something you like to do in your day. That brought a smile...

Enjoy each and every lay-in girl. Life is way too short.

I went for a nosey too well worth reading.

Can't quite get to like the lie in thing myself. I like to sleep till it's light but once I'm up I'm up.

How else could I make sure I got my afternoon nap?

I'm afraid I'm not a lay-in person either, I've tried but I just can't stay there. And I enjoy having the place to myself for an hour or so. Also enjoyed the recommended blog and have added to my list of compulsory visits.

Hi Aims, I am really lucky in that I love hairdressing. I had a break for a year when we first moved here, but really missed it. And French house are lovely, they have so much potential.

Hi Breezy, missing you both. Hope things are going well for you.

Hi SITH, It's funny, I can only lie-in on a Sunday, must be psychological.

Thank you all for visiting Hazels blog.

Cor - I can't even imagine being a moring person. I would sell my firstborn not to have to get up at 7am. I've been doing it all my life what with school, then uni (okay I didn't always get up for every lecture), work then kids. My middle child now has to be at school at 6.45 on Wednesday mornings for basketball practice, and 7 on Friday mornings for orchestra - I am in hell!

Yes, I like the first hour to myself - to do my domestic bits before being given the hurry-on to get outside. Envy your friend the ability to do the photo thing - must crack that.

Hi expatmum, gosh, that is early to be at school! That is a very dedicated child. I find I am more alert in the morning, when I did my PGCE course in the UK I found it much easier in the summer especially, to be up at 5.30 and do a a couple of hours writing assignments before work.

Hi Farming-frenchstyle, I love the quiet hour before OH wakes up, I can get my head in gear properly.
