Surprise!

I had a lovely trip out this morning to Monmorillon market with Penny. It is a really pretty town on a river with a lovely tea room and a nice market. We didn't buy much; Penny stocked up on sausages as her son is coming to visit this weekend, I bought some for Ian as well. There was a very nice goats cheese stall where I bought some mini goats cheese's coated in various herbs and stuff, and some little cakes that looked a bit like drop scones. I bought 3, intending Penny and I to have one with our coffee and one for Ian. Unfortunately I forgot all about them until I got home. I had one with a cuppa and they are delicious! They taste like lemon cheese cake. I have saved yours Penny and will bring it with me tomorrow.

I treated myself to this jasmine plant and some hyacinths. Both will look and smell wonderful.

Now for my surprise... Gertie Goose has laid her first egg!! This is our very first goose egg. Gertie is just coming up to a year old, we got her at the end of last March. She had made a little nest for herself out of straw in the coup and laid her egg. We are so thrilled and I have made a big fuss of her. Look at the size difference to our hens eggs ...

Love the jasmine and the hyacinth. Both have a lovely smell.
The goat's cheese rolled in herbs sound scrummy.
I have never had a goose egg. Do they taste the same as a hen's egg or are they stronger?

I'm almost feeling sorry for Gertie...you took her egg!

Let us know what it tastes like.

Hyacinth - oh my! How I love that smell! I keep looking for a bodywash in that smell but they don't have anything like it here.

Hi Maggie, I adore scented flowers, I can't wait til they come into flower. The goats cheeses are very tasty, it would be lovely to do in the summer using homegrown herbs. I have never had a goose egg before, I can't wait to try it.

Hi Andrea, Montmorillon is such a pretty town, and yes, Kim in the tea room is lovely.

Hi Aims, I always thank the chickens when they lay an egg, and I gave Gertie a big hug. She looked really pleased with herself. She doesn't have a boyfriend so it would never have hatched. I will let you know what it tastes like.

Hi Debra,

Thanks for you comment on Theo, no news yet.

Do let us know what the goose egg is like - it would be one rather large fried egg sandwich I think :-D

My chooks started laying just after the shortest day but the storm seems to have shocked them and they've not laid since then.

Like you I always say thank you when I collect the eggs - must be barmy brits!

Have you seen the cranes yet, a group passed over here yesterday, that's a month earlier than the last 2 years

How lovely to have the jasmine and hyacinth. That is one thing I really do miss over here and that is cut flowers. They are so expensive, I just can't afford them. Good old Gertie. What have you done with the egg, who ate it?

Hi Deborah, I haven't seen any cranes fly over yet. Our favourite time is when the geese fly over in November. We did the final signing for this house in November and came to the house to look around after the signing. While we were in the garden 100's of geese flew over.

Hi Hazel, I miss all the cut flowers as well. I never buy them over here because of the daft prices. I am trying to make a little patch of garden a cutting garden, so I can still have flowers for the house. Neither of us have had the goose egg yet, we might share it tomorrow.
