Gertie and the Goslings

No, it's not a 60's pop group, although it sounds like one. We went to the market today with some friends and we bought two 4 week old goslings. The are really cute and Gertie has taken to them straight away.

We had been undecided whether to get another goose, but yesterday Gertie seemed very lonely. She followed me around the garden whenever I was outside, even when I was mowing the grass. She sat on the kitchen door mat for a couple of hours late afternoon and definately wanted our company.

We decided to get two as if anything happened to one of them, she wouldn't be alone again. She followed me down to the chicken coup where I took the new girls out of the box. The little ones huddled together and Gertie immediately went over and started sniffing and preening them. She now has them following her around the garden! It is lovely to see and although I loved her following me around and coming for attention, this is better for her.

Seeing yours and Deb's geese keeps making me think about getting a couple...hmm time for a bit of though as to where to put them :-D

I can't believe how fast featherd friends grow. Sad to hear of Lucy's passing. Gertie seems to really enjoy her new role. Your such a good goose mom.

Aren't they cute?! I'm so glad they all took to each other. I hear they can get quite lonely. And yes - sad for you but better for Gertie. So sweet Debra.

Gertie & the Goslings! That does indeed sound like a sixties pop group.
The bonding of the little feathered friends is cute. I've been away so have only just heard about the death!

Aahh, they are so cute. Our Mr Goose is a little lost at the moment as Mrs Goose is sitting. He's becoming a real pain, following us everywhere and "helping" with our tasks. I have a photo of his latest little adventure, which I will post in a few days. Good luck with these. Debs x

Hi Deborah, they are lovely company. Gertie is still a great mum to the new goslings. They are no trouble to keep, and eat loads of grass!

Hi Mignon, thanks, I love being a goose mum! They grow unbelievably quick, we can see a difference in the goslings in the 4 days since they've been here.

Hi Aims, I am relieved that Gertie took to them so well. I have still been picking her up and sitting her on my lap for a cuddle, but she constantly looks round for the little ones. Aahhh.

Hi Carol and Chris, Thank you. Debra xx

Hi Maggie May, they are always around the garden in a little group and whistle away like a little band!

Hi Debs, they are really funny when they follow you around aren't they? Gertie thought she was helping when she tried nibbling a lavender bush! Hopefully she didn't like the taste. Poor Mr Goose, how long will Mrs Goose sit for? Is she actually on eggs or just broody as our bantams are at the moment, they are not even sitting on any eggs!!

I'm very tempted! I've had chickens before and loved having them, and of course, the eggs. Never geese though.Maybe one day..
Gertie is very sweet!

Hi Debra, have been catching up with all your news, and was so sorry about Lucy. Still, you seem to be moving on with Gertie and the Goslings. They look lovely.
Funny that you were in the UK while I was in France - the weather was truly awful though! M xx
