Sadly my parents-in-law, John and Eileen lost their beloved golden retriever, Sophie a short while ago. One of their friends sent them this little tale. I cry everytime I read it, as I have lost 4 cats and a dog over the years.
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends, so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food and water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigour; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing: they miss someone very special to them who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. The bright eyes are intent; the eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to break away from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart. Then you cross the Rainbow Bridge together.

Gulp...... again!
Lovely thought that.
What a lovely thought!
I can sympathise, we lost yet another cat last week. Don't read my latest blogpost if you are of a nervous disposition! That's two this year and 4 since we moved to France. Never lost a single one in the UK. Very strange. I suspect the cat charity will stop me adopting them soon. I love the whole Rainbow Bridge idea. VLiF
I saw the title and just knew and had to skip reading it or I would be a sobbing mess for another long time.
I still miss my Dolly every single second.
Aye someone sent me this too when I lost a pet. It's corny old pap but I love it and hang onto it. My 19 year old cat was put to sleep a week ago last Monday - I broke my heart for a few days. That wee story makes you hold out a bit of hope that you will be reunited. I hate losing pets but they bring such joy.
Sorry if I have upset anyone, I just loved the thought of it. VLiF and MOB I am so sorry to hear of your losses. THey bring so much joy into our lives and it is truly heartbreaking to lose them. They leave such big holes in our lives. Debra xxxxx
