The Bridges of Madison County

One of the reasons I joined the book club is to expand my choice of reading material. I have just finished reading the above book for the book club and I am so glad it was chosen, it is a wonderful story.

For those of you that haven't read it, it is set in 1965 in Iowa. The story is about a chance meeting between a farmers wife, Francesca and Robert Kincaid a National Geographic photographer.

The start of the book is intriguing, beacuse it told of a meeting between the author and Francesca's grown up children. They had approached the author with a view to writing this story about their mother and Kincaid. At this time you are not told why, and this made me want to read further.

Without telling you the whole story and ruining the ending for you, I found it thought provoking. emotional, happy and sad. This chance meeting influenced these two people for the rest of their lives. I loved it and would really recommend reading it.

I will look out for it. I have a big box of books to read and also the ones that I had for Christmas!

I knew when you said you were reading it that you would find it a joy. It is terrific but you will probably read some real duds now that you are part of a reading group but as ever it expands the mind.

I've never seen the film, but loved the book - it had me in tears. Glad you loved it - Did you know it was first released with the title, Love In Black and White, I believe?

I haven't seen the film or read the book, but will keep an eye out for it in the future. I've been reading 'The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy' on my husband's recommendation while I've got the time and I'm struggling a bit with it, think I need something more moving like the book you've described!

Glad the book club is going well for you!

Hmmm... I've never read it, but you make it sound very appealing. I'm still stuck on the book I started before Christmas. I may have to give it up and start something else!

I haven't read the book but I saw the film and the main character was Clint Eastwood, can't remember the woman's name. Loved the film, the book should be even better. Lovely to catch up with you. Have a wonderful New Year and love to him indoors as well. Take care. Hazel

This is a stupidly late comment on your posting, but have only just found your site (I really like your layout BTW, wish I had the 'tecky'knowledge to do something interesting with mine!)
Anyway back to the point - I watched 'The Bridges...' by accident last year for the first time...yes things filter through slowly here! But I loved it, and when I told my friends how great it was I got sympathetic looks which obviously meant they thought I was a sad old soul not to have seen it before. Ho-hum!
