New Girls

After spending a week with only 4 (sadly now 3) chickens, we now have some beautiful new girls. We have got 2 big, grey speckled hens, one large grey one and 3 pretty brown Warens. The grey, speckled ones are really heavy and very soft. Lets hope they are good layers. We know that the Warens are good, reliable layers. Skippy was a Waren and rarely missed a day.

Little black cockerel has been really strutting his stuff outside the coup! He has got 6 new girls to impress, after all black chicken and Sage won't let him have his way with them! The geese have been very interested in them as well, and have parading up and down making lots of noise. The new girls will be kept in the run for a day or so, then let out with the others.
This is one of the speckled hens and one of the warens.

On a sad note, one of the oldest bantams is no longer with us. Sage and Onion were our first chickens, and they were at least a year or two old when we got them 4 years ago. She survived the fox attack last week, but hasn't been seen for 2 or 3 days now. Her and her sister are usually inseperable, but only Sage has been seen lately.
It is so lovely to have a load of chickens again. In a couple of days they will be wandering around the garden making happy clucking noises.
